Advanced Distributed Learning Working Group
ADL WG Meeting 2011 in Tbilisi, Georgia
The ADL Working Group is one of multiple groups that operate within the Partnership for Peace Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes. The group’s operations, which are led by the ISN TACC, are sustained by the Swiss Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport and the US Department of Defense. In addition, the working group has formal ties with NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) and with the US Secretary of Defense’s Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative.
Mission of the ADL WG
The ADL WG’s multi-national mission is to strengthen defense and security policy education through distributed electronic means. It performs this mission primarily by collaborating at the institutional level. Additionally, the Working Group promotes ADL capability building in nations and organizations that are new to this type of education.
Its key activities include:
- Creating and sharing interactive e-learning courseware that meets common educational requirements. In practical terms, this means providing a range of free content that supports defense and security policy education.
- Supporting the development of open-source solutions for content production and distribution.
- Exchanging and disseminating best practices, to include cutting edge mobile learning and simulation methods.
