Armaments Duplication in Europe: A Quantitative Assessment

This paper explores how European countries are hollowing out their militaries by not coordinating their defense spending. In particular, it provides a quantitative assessment of just how much duplication, and therefore waste, there is in the case of procuring and fielding weapon systems. So, just how bad is the problem? Well, the paper concludes by comparing its results with corresponding data from the United States. Once compared, the duplication ratio in European programs is apparently three times higher than in the multi-service US military.
