Usability
We have tried to keep the ISN website as simple as possible. This has been done through a series of regular usability and accessibility tests, as well as through the active feedback of users to the site.
Accessibility
Public content must be accessible for everyone, therefore the ISN is particularly committed to barrier-free access to its information services and content holdings, and has voluntarily used WAI guidelines in the design of the site. These guidelines are based on recommendations by the internet consortium W3C, with the goal of generally improving online access to information.
This specifically means that we have chosen not to use such technical features that might inhibit or prevent the proper and simple use of the site. Where this is not possible, we have tried to offer plausible alternatives, so that no one is excluded.
Most of the pages follow a simple and unified structure, in order to maximize accessibility. The reading sequence is optimized for text browsers, while the navigation has built in hyperlink aids. Most of the pages have the following structure:
- Go to search
- Go to content
- Go to accessibility help
- Link to the isn.ethz.ch start page
- Navigation
- Search
- Page Content
- Disclaimer and Privacy Policy
In case you are not able to see the hyperlinks, please de-activate in your browser the cascading style sheets (CSS).
Each content page additionally has at least one title heading (H1 – H6), which you may alternately also access with a screen-reader.
