Crunch Time for Egypt's Civil-Military Relations

This brief examines the challenges facing Egyptian civil-military relations following President Morsi's ouster of the first ranks of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF). How to avoid politicization of the army and democratize civilian oversight of the military continues to be the transition's key challenge, argues the author. Any sustainable transition must seek a broad national consensus among all political forces on the management of the transitional process.
