A Strategy for the US-Japan Alliance
This paper addresses some issues concerning US strategy in Asia. President Obama has identified Asia as a priority in future US military strategy. North Korea’s nuclear proliferation and China’s growing military capabilities suggest new challenges for Washington. To succeed in an era of austerity US strategy in Asia will, by necessity, depend heavily on allies. The author argues that no relations will be of more importance than those with Japan. The author develops a strategy for how to best address the issues facing the US-Japan relations in order to build a positive relationship.
