Islam and Religious Transformation in Adjara
This paper provides an assessment of the religious situation in upper Adjara as of February 2012. The author first contextualized the situation through an analysis of the structural factors which have given impetus to religious transformation and conversion to Christianity. Next, he addresses the effects of local institutions on the religious situation in upper Adjara. Finally, he analyzes Muslim issues as well as state policy on religious affairs in the region.
