Market Mechanisms for Adaptation to Climate Change
Lessons from Mitigation and a Pathway to Implementation
Adaptation to climate change impacts can be proactive or reactive. In the case of proactive, market-based, and public policy-centered adaptation instruments, several key lessons have been learned. This paper highlights those lessons and discusses a concrete pathway to establishing market-based mechanisms for adaptation to climate change impacts. It further defines priorities for further research and possible pilot program implementation, differentiating by types of adaptation.
