Aid Effectiveness: The Role of Qualitative Research in Impact Evaluation
The brief examines the research methodology employed by social scientists in the international development field to evaluate public policy intervention, specifically the randomized control trial (RCT). The paper examines the research traditions of positivism and social constructivism and questions whether RCTs can be combined with qualitative research methods. The paper concludes that RCTs can offer a mode of increasing evidence-based decisions making in particular aid interventions in specific contexts.
