The New Energy Scenario and its Geopolitical Implications
This paper analyzes the attention given to energy as a global issue after a long absence from the international community's strategic concerns. The author explains the factors and implications that have reshaped the energy issue and draws attention to the resurgence of energy nationalism in nearly all parts of the world. He foresees the fragmentation of the world economy that would result from national competition in the energy sector and would threaten not only the future of the EU's single market but also the possibility of progressing further with world economic integration.
