India Struggling to Cope with Sanctions on Iran
This policy brief discusses India's difficulties in complying with the sanctions imposed on Iran by the US and the EU. Although New Delhi's official position states that it would only comply with UN mandated sanctions and not unilaterally imposed ones, India has cut its oil imports from Iran nevertheless, thereby earning itself a waiver from the US. India also need to deal with the EU ban on insurance cover for tankers carrying Iranian crude oil and find innovative means to continue trading with Iran, which continues to be an important source of energy.
