Foreign Economic Relations of Ryazan Oblast in the Context of a New Security Environment
This paper examines the internal political and economic conditions in Ryazan Oblast, a region 200 kilometers south of Moscow. The author compares the region's socio-economic stagnation with the continued development of Moscow and identifies a failure to adapt to the challenges of globalization and post-Soviet reform. The author also discusses the oblast's efforts to broaden its international contacts, the role played by its political elites, and the threats to the region's security.
