Hugo Chavez's Revolution
This report examines recent political developments in Venezuela. It assesses Chavez’s victory in December 2006 and what his "Bolivarian Revolution" signifies for the country. The paper states that after eight years in power and despite his repeated electoral successes, Chavez faces serious challenges. The authors discuss the general problems with crime, government inefficiency, excessive spending, corruption and political polarization in Venezuela, as well as the presidential willingness to sacrifice democratic principles in order to advance personal agenda points.
