Political and Economic Realities Clash in Latin America
This policy brief discusses the growing disparity between political and business integration in Latin America. Unlike regional integration processes, Latin American business integration is moving forward at a fast pace as evidenced by the Pacific Accord free trade agreement signed by Mexico, Chile, Colombia and Peru or the stock market integration among some of these countries. These developments, in turn, will affect regional politics in the coming years. This report examines trends in Bolivia, Colombia and Brazil and contrasts them with US concerns in the region.
