After Combat, the Perils of Partnership: NATO and Afghanistan Beyond 2014
This paper discusses NATO’s post-combat Afghan partnership. According to the author NATO could still make a considerable contribution to Afghanistan’s long-term stabilization. Furthermore, NATO will not be alone in providing training and security assistance on the ground post-2014, investing money in Afghan forces or maintaining a political dialogue with the government. The author argues that it is important that NATO, in this wider context, considers ways to sharpen its partnership policy and public messaging.
