Why Should Mediators Consider the Economic Dimensions of Conflicts?
This article summarizes the case for mediators giving greater consideration to the economic dimensions of conflicts – particularly those concerning natural resources. It also looks at some of the ways in which mediators might address this issue. The author points out that the recent UN Environment Programme (UNEP) publication, "From Conflict to Peacebuilding – the Role of Natural Resources and the Environment" provides valuable arguments for giving this area greater attention.
