Expect the Unexpected: Ten Situations to Keep an Eye on
North Korean flag
This paper presents ten unexpected, but conceivable situations that could foist themselves unplanned and unannounced on Germany, the EU and the international community. Among the themes discussed are: energy and climate, the Euro crisis, secession movements within EU member-states, the likelihood of another round of border changes in the Western Balkans and the repercussions of the Cyprus conflict. Finally, the authors discuss the risk of democratic transitions as a new opening for terrorist forces in the Arab world and possible trajectories for North Korea after Kim Jong-il.
