US-Taiwan Relationship: Overview of Policy Issues
This report provides a succinct overview with analysis of the issues in the US-Taiwan relationship. Taiwan has been of significant security, economic, and political interest to the United States. Although the United States does not diplomatically recognize Taiwan, it is a de facto, significant autonomous actor in the world. The report offers some salient issues for policy between the two governments, such as how to encourage Taiwan to support US interests in peace and prosperity, including in US alliances and the cross-strait relationship, and in areas of economic and trade cooperation.
