Afghanistan: Politics, Elections, and Government Performance
Afghan governing capacity has increased significantly since the Taliban regime fell in late 2001, but many positions, particularly at the local level, are unfilled. That transition is to be completed by the end of 2014, a time frame agreed to by the United States, its international partners, and the Afghan government.
