Introduction

This chapter is explores the US security landscape of 2010 and describes some of the strategies implemented to deal with these shifting threats. It gives an overview of the contents within each chapter as well as highlighting the two main themes of the volume. These are: a description of the overall global security context within which the peace building and stability operation strategies are currently conducted, and the practical challenges of implementing these strategies in the fragile states where they are needed.
