Transforming the Singapore Armed Forces
Matching Technological Prowess With Organizational Change
This commentary discusses the Advanced Combat Man System, a technological application of information and networking, of the Singapore Armed Forces. Designed for land warriors, the technological advances and their implementation are examined. The author describes how military organizations are normally conservative, with disincentives for risk-taking. The author also points out that the implementation of network technologies for armed forces is a double-edged affair changing the organizational hierarchies.
