Visa Policies in South Eastern Europe
A Hindrance or a Stepping Stone to European Integration?
This paper examines the impact of the enlargement of the European Union and the Schengen zone on border management and visa policies in Southeastern Europe. It analyzes cross-border activities as well as the potential impediments to the free movement of people and goods and it proposes alternative solutions. The author concludes that the effects of the Schengen system on most of the countries in the region are negative and he calls for new visa policies.
