Putin and the Press
The Revival of Soviet-Style Propaganda
This publication discusses the passivity of the mass media in Russia regarding the re-emergence of Soviet-style propaganda techniques and administrative direction. The author argues that the renaissance of the traditions of Soviet propaganda represents a special era for the Russian media and domestic policy; the author also claims that this was not a difficult feat to achieve. The paper examines the cult of personality in Russia, democracy, control over the press, propaganda tools and counter-propaganda.
