Trends in Electoral Violence in Sub-Sahara Africa
Studies indicate that violence affects between 19 and 25 percent of all elections in Africa. In many countries where electoral violence is a risk, it tends to recur and may consequently lead to an unfavorable view of democratization. Some recent actions taken by the governments and civil society may offer insights into reversing the trends of recurring violence.
