Falling Behind Again?
Southeast Europe and the Global Crisis
This paper considers the impact of the 2008 global financial crisis on Southeast Europe. It maintains that countries in the region have little experience with financial crises of this scope and their institutional arrangements remain distinctly fragile. The author argues that confronting the crises will require bold and coordinated policy initiatives, sustained international support and recognition of the crisis's social implications.
