The Kurds in Syria
Fueling Separatist Movements in the Region
This report assesses the situation of Kurds in Syria. It explains that they have been denied basic social, cultural and political rights given the Syrian state's refuses to grant them citizenship. It further discusses Kurdish political activity in Syria, highlighting that many Kurds reject separatism and have generally been committed to peaceful democratic struggle. The author concludes that the US and the EU should use any diplomatic tools at their disposal to promote appropriate reforms in Syria and the region.
