Central Asia-Caucasus Analyst Vol 13, No 1
This issue of the Central Asia-Caucasus Analyst includes analytical articles and field reports on security issues facing the Central Asia-Caucasus region in January 2011. The analytical articles examine the agreement on a gas pipeline between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India; the link between the leader of the Russian republic of Dagestan and oligarch Suleiman Kerimov; the balance between developing nuclear energy and promoting nuclear nonproliferation in Kazakhstan; and the links between politicians and organized crime in Kyrgyzstan. In addition, some shorter field reports provide accounts of the elimination of an armed militia in Tajikistan; increasing arms production in Azerbaijan; proposals to extend the term of Kazakhstan's president until 2020 without elections; and rising poverty in Armenia.
