European Security in NATO’s Strategy
Time has come to realize that European security is no longer the primary focus of NATO. NATO was built to secure Europe in a post-World War II order that was essentially made to “keep the Russians out, the Americans in, and the Germans down”, to quote the famous Lord Ismay. None of these three founding principles are still valid today.
