Preventing Torture: International and Regional Mechanisms to Combat Torture
This paper details international and regional mechanism for the prevention of torture. It profiles arrangements at the UN and other international bodies, as well as regional mechanisms in Africa, Europe and the Americas. It also provides a definition of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment, and outlines state obligations under international law.
