The International Regulation and Governance of the Internet
On 4 July 2012, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) was rejected by the European Parliament. This commentary argues that the decision is a step towards maintaining the open character of the Internet and should be considered a victory for European internet users. Political representation of the interests of the protesters may bring the issues of cyberspace into the mainstream of future political discussions. This political mobilization of Internet users from all around Europe should be considered a vital asset for the movement to maintain an open Internet.
