Mercosur: A Critical Overview
This paper provides a critical overview of Mercosur. Among the issues discussed are the regionalization of South America and the economic problems of the Mercosur countries. The author states that progress was only achieved in the first five years after the Treaty of Asuncion 1991, and that since then the process of integration has stalled. The paper concludes by presenting four possible scenarios for the positive future development of Mercosur.
