Andreas Wenger
Andreas Wenger Director and ISN Executive Director

Andreas Wenger is Professor of International and Swiss Security Policy and Director of the Center for Security Studies at ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology). He holds a doctoral degree from the University of Zurich and was a guest scholar at Princeton University (1992-94), Yale University (1998), the Woodrow Wilson Center (2000) and at the George Washington University (2005-2006). His main research interests are in security and strategic studies and the history of international relations. In the MACIS program, he teaches seminars on political violence and security politics. Dr Wenger has published monographs and scholarly articles on security policy and conflict history. He is the delegate for the Master of Advanced Studies in Security Policy and Crisis Management of the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences at ETH Zurich and responsible for the International Relations and Security Network.

Head of ISN Strategy and Operations
Peter Faber
Peter Faber Head of ISN Strategy and Operations

Prior to becoming the Head of ISN Strategy and Operations in May 2011, Peter Faber was an Associate Professor of Security Studies at the US National War College and a part-time faculty member at the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University, Washington, DC. He also served in the United States Department of Defense for 30 years, both as a strategic planner and as a policy developer.

He holds five advanced degrees, including two from Yale University. In addition to strategic planning, his other areas of specialization include European security issues; US national security policy and planning; Western military history, theory and strategy; and global terrorism. He has taught at nine academic and professional schools over the years and has lectured in 23 countries.

Deputy Head of ISN Strategy and Operations
Patricia Moser
Patricia Moser Deputy Head of ISN Strategy and Operations

Patricia Moser has been Deputy Head of ISN Strategy and Operations since July 2010.

Subsequent to joining the ISN in June 2003, she held numerous positions within the organization. They included Chief Editor of website content (2007-2008), acting leader of the ISN's Information Services Team (2008-2009), and Head Coordinator for the biannual International Security Forum (2011). Her secondary tasks have included supervising the redesign of the 2008 version of the ISN website and shepherding ISN project development in 2009.

In terms of personal education, Patricia holds an MA in sociology, international relations and economic and social history from the University of Zurich. She has also been awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration by The Open University. Finally, she studied at the University of Western Australia, where she took classes in Asian studies, political science and history.

ISN - Editorial Content Team

Adam Dempsey
Adam Dempsey Head of Editorial Content

Adam joined the ISN in September 2011 as Head of the Content Team. He holds a BA in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lancaster University and an MA in Intelligence and Security Studies from the University of Salford.

He has previously worked for the UK Defence Forum, Transnational Crisis Project and for a defense and public affairs consultancy. Adam has written extensively on defense and security issues for an audience that includes UK Parliamentarians and the defense industry. More recently, Adam has analyzed defense-industrial issues for Defence and Security Systems International Magazine, Defense Industry Daily and in his blog National Defence Industry Extra.

William joined the ISN in June 2011. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Government from Harvard University, where he specialized in political philosophy and international relations, and a Master's degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics. William has also worked for Habitat for Humanity International.

Dominic Béchaz
Dominic Béchaz Editor

Dominic joined the ISN in November 2011. He holds a Master's degree in International Relations Theory from the London School of Economics, and studied Political Science, Economics, and Public International Law at the University of Zurich. Dominic previously worked for the International Crisis Group in Brussels where he was a Communications Assistant.

Prior to focusing on international affairs, Dominic also worked at the Institute for Embedded Systems and completed a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology at the Zurich University of Applied Science in Winterthur. He speaks German, English, and French.

Vivian Brailey Fritschi Editor

Vivian Fritschi is an ISN editor and is currently responsible for producing Security Watch. She was previously a research associate and director of the Young Leaders program at Pacific Forum, Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Honolulu-based research institute.

Vivian has a masters degree in foreign affairs from the University of Virginia and received her bachelor degrees in international relations and in French literature from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.

Elias Blum
Elias Blum Student Editor

Elias joined the ISN as a student editor in October 2011. He is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Comparative and International Studies at ETH Zurich, and holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Zurich.

Elias has worked as a research assistant for the Media and Communication Studies department at the University of Zurich, and has interned with the ISN previously, as well as with Swiss Radio and Television. He speaks English, German and some French.

Andreas joined the ISN as a student editor in October 2012. He is currently pursuing an MA degree in International Affairs and Governance at the University of St. Gallen, where he earned a BA degree in the same subject.

Prior to joining the ISN, Andreas worked for the Defense Attaché assigned to the Swiss Embassy in Washington, DC. He speaks German, English, French, Spanish and some Italian.

Charles Bara Head of Multimedia Content

Charles joined the ISN in February 2009 and has been the Head of Multimedia Content since April 2013. Previously, he has worked as an Editor and was responsible for the maintenance and expansion of the ISN's Digital Library. He holds a Bachelor's degree in economics from St Joseph's College in Tamil Nadu, India, and a second Bachelor's in philosophy from Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth College in Pune, India. He speaks English, Hindi, Uraon, Nepali, Bengali and some German.

Michael Woods Multimedia Library Coordinator

Michael Woods is a Multimedia Library Coordinator at the ISN. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in Political Philosophy from the University of York and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Politics from Cardiff University. He speaks English and is building up his German.

Alexander Goddard is a Multimedia Coordinator at the ISN.  He holds an MA in Intelligence & Security Studies from the University of Salford and a BA in Ancient History & Classical Archaeology from the University of Edinburgh.  Prior to working at the ISN, Alexander worked as a TEFL Teacher and as a Military Analyst.

Paulina Gruszczynski has over ten years of experience working in communications and external relations for international organizations. She has worked, for example, for UNICEF Headquarters in New York and Geneva as well as at the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in Geneva. Paulina holds a Master of Arts Degree in Sociology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English (with a minor in Russian). Besides English, she speaks French, Polish and some German.

Piotr Switalski
Piotr Switalski Head of Communities

Piotr joined the ISN in October 2012 as a Communities Coordinator and became Head of Communities in January 2013. He previously served as consultant on media relations, strategic and crisis communications, stakeholder engagement and management, and e-activism in ‘high risk’ topics (human rights, energy, healthcare, etc.). Additionally, in 2011 Piotr worked for the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU. He holds an MSc in Media and Communications from the London School of Economics and Political Science, a BSc in Administration and a BA in Communications from Concord University, West Virginia. He is fluent in English, German and Polish.

Julia Kreienkamp
Julia Kreienkamp Communities Coordinator

Julia joined the ISN in October 2012 as a Communities Coordinator. She acts as the point of contact for our partners and all partner-related inquiries. She previously  worked with the Public Information team of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization in Vienna, Austria. She also interned with the German Mission to the United Nations in Vienna, the German-Baltic Chamber of Commerce in Lithuania, and the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin.

Julia holds an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics and a BA in Politics and Economics from the University of Münster. Her research interests include the role of culture and religion in international relations and security as well as environmental politics. She speaks German, English and French.

Marcus Klinge Head of ICT

Marcus Klinge has been Head of ICT since May 2011. He joined the ISN in January 2008 as Project Lead for Web Development and Services. Prior to his arrival at the ISN, Marcus worked as index quality specialist for a European search engine and as an IT project manager for Credit Suisse.

He has a degree in psychology and computer science from the University of Hamburg and has worked on web-related projects since 1998, with a particular focus on the development of content management systems for libraries and big information portals.

Marcus speaks German and English.

Mark joined the ISN as a Web Developer in April 2011. He previously worked in London, building websites and interactive touchscreen kiosks for a digital media agency specializing in architectural, urban planning and development environments. Mark holds a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Liverpool, speaks English and is learning German.

Reto Schilliger
Reto Schilliger Head of Training & ADL Competence Center (TACC)

Reto Schilliger joined the ISN in September 2008 as Head of its Training & ADL Competence Center (TACC). As part of his duties, he also acts as the Chairman of the Partnership for Peace Consortium’s Advanced Distributed Learning Working Group (ADL WG), and a Rapid-e-Learning trainer-coach for the Swiss Department of Defense.

Prior to his arrival at the ISN, Reto spent more than 20 years shaping and leading numerous e-Learning projects for the industrial, defense and educational sectors. His specific areas of expertise include the following: technical documentation and performance support; multimedia  computer and web-based design, training and testing; project and team management; and the training of technical writers and e-learning authors.

Reto holds an MSc in Instructional Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology, New York, and has further formal qualifications in corporate communications. He and his team are happy to discuss the open source e-learning tools they have developed or administer with anyone who is interested in setting up e-learning programs of their own. The tools include the ILIAS SCORM Editor, the ISN Multimedia Slideshow Tool, the ISN Mobler Learning Cards App and more.

Christian Glahn
Christian Glahn Researcher

Dr. Christian Glahn joined the ISN in February 2012 as a Researcher in the Training & ADL Competence Center (TACC), where he specializes in mobile technology learning and research.

Prior to joining the ISN, Christian was an assistant professor at the Centre for Learning Sciences and Technologies (CELSTEC), the Open University, The Netherlands. Christian has also worked on technology-enhanced learning (TEL) projects at the University of Innsbruck. His research interests focus on designing instructional methods and tools that broaden the way we learn, both formally and informally. He has published over thirty articles on this subject and has been involved in several national and international research and development projects on lifelong learning and educational technologies.

Christian is a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association for Mobile Learning (IAMLearn), chairs the SWITCH Mobile Learning SIG, and sits on the review boards of several scientific journals and conferences.

Beat Oderbolz Instructional Designer

Beat Oderbolz joined the ISN in September 2008 as an instructional designer in the Training & ADL Competence Center (TACC). His special responsibility is to support the Partnership for Peace Consortium’s ADL Working Group, both in terms of its content and the learning management system it uses. As part of his secondary duties, he acts as a Rapid-e-Learning trainer-coach for the Swiss Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport and shares his instructional design expertise with interested partners.

Beat has a MA in Teaching from the University of Zurich and is also a qualified multimedia producer and instructional designer. As with the rest of the TACC team, he is happy to discuss the open source e-learning tools the team has available for those who are interested in setting up e-learning programs of their own. The tools include the ILIAS SCORM Editor, the ISN Multimedia Slideshow Tool, the ISN Mobler Learning Cards App and more.

Evangelia Mitsopoulou
Evangelia Mitsopoulou Mobile Developer

Evangelia joined the ISN in August 2012 as a mobile technology developer. She holds a MSc in Information and Communication Technologies in Education (ICT) from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a BSc in Applied Computer Science from University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki.

Prior to joining the ISN, Evangelia worked on multiple mobile learning projects in London, including a European Commission-funded project on e-learning standards and semantic web technologies at St George’s, University of London. She has also worked in Greece, where she worked as an independent web developer and as an informatics teacher at primary schools at the Greek Ministry of Education.

Evangelia’s research interests are instructional design principles, cognitive learning theories, human computer interaction (HCI) and mobile learning. She has published articles on these subjects and has presented her findings at various conferences. She speaks Greek, English and German.

Tim Wendel joined ISN in July 2008 as a graphic designer for the Business Development and Outreach Team. He studied at the Berlin University of the Arts, the Zurich University of the Arts, and received his degree in graphic design from Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts in 2007. Since then, he has worked as a freelance designer for various graphical online and print projects.
