Forecasters commonly differentiate between the near-, mid- and long-term when making predictions about the future. In this dossier, we use these frameworks to present and discuss concrete examples of future forecasting in relation to international affairs. Specifically, we first look at two examples of short-term forecasting, one medium example, and finally a long-term view of the evolving international system. Finally, we provide a professional insider’s view of some of the problems associated with effective future forecasting.
