Colliding Geopolitical Approaches in New ‘Great Games’
Geopolitical child watches the birth of the new human, by Salvador Dali
In this dossier, we follow up on our previous look at Competing Views of Geopolitics in a more “real world” way. We begin by looking at the relationship of geopolitics to the idea of borders and then turn our attention to the fundamental question of this dossier – are the geopolitical Great Games currently unfolding in parts of the world really Great Games at all? To answer this question, we examine the current geopolitical dynamics at play in Afghanistan, the Middle East (in terms of the Arab Spring and Autumn), Africa (in terms of the role of natural resources), the melting Arctic, and multinational organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
