IGES White Papers

The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) is a research institute that conducts pragmatic and innovative strategic policy research to support sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. It was established in 1998 by an initiative of the Japanese government. This series consolidates the primary outcomes of the Institute's policy research. It covers six sectors, namely forestry, freshwater, climate change, urban environment, business and environmental education. The series assesses the environmental situation in Asia, reviews policy measures and presents policy recommendations that promote sustainable development for the region.
