Mauritania - The Other Apartheid?
This publication examines the conflict-ridden political and social development of Mauritania. It discusses the deterioration of the domestic situation and relations with Senegal resulting from the historical discrimination by the Arab-Berbers against their black co-citizens. The author explores this racism as it applies to economic, cultural and political life, and compares the situation in Mauritania with those in the Sudan and South Africa. The publication also discusses the issues of slavery and refugees and their destabilizing effect on society.
