Definitions of Globalization: A Comprehensive Overview and a Proposed Definition

This paper describes the historical difficulties and disagreements in attempting to define the term globalization. The paper details how some people claim that globalization cannot be defined, while others claim that a definition would constrain the meaning of the term. The authors provide a comprehensive overview of the existing definitions of globalization and introduce a proposed definition: "Globalization is a process that encompasses the causes, course, and consequences of the transnational and transcultural integration of all human and non-human activities."
