Total Information Awareness (DARPA's Research Program)
This paper presents the Total Information Awareness research program conducted by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in the United States. This program was launched after the terrorist attacks of September 11 with the aim of developing innovative information technologies to detect terrorist groups planning attacks against American citizens anywhere in the world. The program aims to create a counter-terrorism information system that converts nebulous data to knowledge and actionable options by increasing information coverage, providing focused warnings, and supporting collaboration, analytical reasoning and information sharing. With the Total Information Awareness program, decision-makers can effectively evaluate the impact of current or future policies and prospective courses of action.
