Afghanistan’s Democracy: A Sustainable Long-term Goal?
This paper looks at challenges facing Afghanistan's policy aims toward becoming a pluralist democracy. After 2014, the Afghan government and the National Security Forces (ANSF) will be handed control over the country and henceforth be responsible for maintaining peace and security. After identifying the main obstacles facing Afghanistan's policy aims, the author highlights that doubts remain over whether Afghanistan will be successful in its goal of establishing and strengthening a pluralist democracy in the wake of the 2014 transition.
