Strategic Implications of TPP: Answering the Critics
This bulletin examines the arguments of both advocates and opponents of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The author explains that most free-trade advocates and economists support TPP as a stimulus to growth, while opponents, such as China, fear a US containment policy, and a loss of jobs stemming from unfair competition. She points out that criticism of TPP centers overwhelmingly on the fact that China is not a member and also the impact the agreement could have on Asian regionalism.
