Russian Analytical Digest No 131: Nationalism and Islam in Russia’s North Caucasus
This paper consists of two articles examining the turbulent situation in the North Caucasus and its implications for the region. The first article investigates the impact that the conflicts and radicalization in the North Caucasus region have on Russian and regional politics. The second article discusses the nature of the insurgency and terrorist groups in the North Caucasus. It examines their links with global Salafi jihad as well as the rationale behind their violent actions against the Russian state.
