Strange Coup d’Etat: The Army’s Removal of the Egyptian President
This commentary analyzes the Egyptian military’s recent suspension of the country’s constitution and removal of President Mohammad Morsi from office. More specifically, it argues that Morsi's removal was undemocratic, that it weakened civilian state institutions, and that the danger of the Army exceeding its legal and socially acceptable roles in Egyptian society remains in place.
