Measuring Democracy and Human Rights in Southern Africa
This paper assesses public support for democracy and human rights in three southern African countries. Employing surveys, the authors of the first two articles assess public attitudes towards democracy in Mozambique and Namibia. The Namibian case study focuses in particular on the youth demographic's support for democracy. The third article questions the high incidence of human rights violations, which obstruct the process of democratization, by members of the national security forces in post-liberation Namibia and South Africa.
