From Hegemony to the New Geopolitical Competition
Assessing Russia's Strategic Footprint in Central Asia
This paper looks at Russia's conduct in the post-Soviet space in general and its policies toward Central Asia in particular. The author claims that Russia's increasingly muscular policies in its immediate neighborhood as well as its continuing standoff with the West, particularly with the US, have the potential to unsettle the Central Asian region, as local leaders will be compelled to make stark strategic choices.
