Energy Price Shocks

Sweet and Sour Consequences for Developing Countries

This paper discusses the effects of changes in energy prices on developing countries. It presents a literature review of the transmission channels between energy prices and growth and distribution in developing countries, employs a Computable General Equilibrium model to identify the most vulnerable countries, and presents case studies from Nigeria, Malawi and Ghana to illustrate policy responses to oil shocks in more detail.
