Can a Red Line be Drawn on Iran?
This insight investigates whether a red line can be drawn on Iran's nuclear programs. It argue that drawing a red line is not doable. More specifically, because setting a limit forces the hand of both sides, forcing Iran to make a decision and driving those who set the line to action. At present, Iran is comfortable not having to deal with an ultimatum and the US is not in a position to be forced to take action. Thus, the talk of setting red lines seems to be little more than a method of dousing the public disagreements between the governments of Israel and the US at leas till after the US elections.
