The War for Afghanistan

This report argues that the policies pursued by the United States in Afghanistan and Central Asia over the past decade have drastically altered the region’s 'political map'. Specifically, they have facilitated unprecedented US influence, secured its long-term military presence across the region, and produced the rudiments of a client regime in the heart of Asia. The report notes that these policy objectives predate more recent US interests in counter-terrorism and promoting human rights or democracy.
