Bhutan: Shades of 'Shangri-La' in a Haven of 'Happiness'
The author of this paper argues that cautious reforms in Bhutan's politics, economics, and international relations are rapidly rendering this tiny kingdom into ‘everywhere else’. He discusses the concept of Gross National Happiness (GNH) that was crafted by Bhutan's rulers. The concept of GNH is based on four pillars: good governance, sustainable socio-economic development, cultural preservation, and environmental conservation.
