Painful Politics in 'Paradise': Changes in the Maldives
This paper highlights the highly volatile nature of politics in the Maldives. Since independence in 1965, this state has experienced one party rule, several military coups and stalled attempts at greater democratization. The paper concludes by considering how the outcome of elections scheduled for 2013 might impact upon the future stability of this island nation.
