High Tide – Low Tide – Defence Budgets: Increase in Asia, Decrease in Europe and America
Reasons and Consequences
Whereas defense spending is increasing in Asia, many Western states cut their defense budgets in the face of fiscal challenges. This can have negative and destabilizing effects for security and stability in a globalized world. In this speech, the author argues that the EU and NATO will have to prioritize and concentrate their defense efforts in order to mitigate the negative effects of decreasing defense capabilities.
