Afterword: How the West Misunderstands Russia
This chapter argues that Russia has transcended its Soviet identity and that claiming Russian 'weakness' based on comparisons with the Soviet Union is methodologically flawed; a country that has enormous capacity to influence US security strategy cannot be considered weak. The author discusses the underestimation of Russia as a global actor in world politics, which impacts upon the effectiveness of the state to deal with security issues. The author contends that it is impossible to expect Russia to remain simply a regional power.
